She was born of a military father, Daniel Johnson, and has spent most of her lifetime with him, leaving her mother, Elizabeth Johnson, at the age of 2 to live with his father who was constantly being transferred due to work reasons.She was a tomboy in her childhood, having 3 male siblings that he associated most with. She has 3 sisters who are her elders, making a family of 7 children, she is the fourth.
She got married in 2011 to Prince Odianosen Okojie, Popularly known as Odi. Odi is the former, ‘traditionally-married’ (Okojie claims that, but the former ‘wife’ claims that they were legally married) husband of Lovely Okojie who has 2 kids with him. Currently, Mercy Johnson also has two kids for him too, Baby Purity Ozioma Okojie who was born on December, 2012 and Baby Henry who was born on October 15, 2014.

The event was hosted at the Eko Hotel and suites.She was once banned from acting for being too expensive. On the 3rd of November, 2013, the movie marketers of Nollywood threatened to prohibit her from the industry due to her high demands. She reportedly demanded a pay raise for featuring in a movie. However, the ban was lifted by marketers/producers on the 9th of March, 2014, following an apology by the actress.
